Translation project

Tibetan Buddhist texts
Tibetan Buddhist texts

The main aim of the translation project is to have some Tibetan Buddhist texts translated from Tibetan to English so that westerners may have access to these rare and treasured teachings. A number of outstandingly beautiful and beneficial works could not yet be accessed by western Buddhists as they were not yet translated. In addition, we wish to arrange for the translation of Rinpoche's three books from English into Tibetan.

We require a voluntary translator or sponsorship for a translator to undertake this elaborate task for the benefit of sentient beings.

Texts to be translated into English

Rinpoche listed some of the most beneficial texts to be prioritised for translation from Tibetan into English:

  1. Amitabha Pure Land - composed by Lama Tsoknyi Gyamtso. This is an extensive and beautiful commentary that details the complete Amitabha practice and will benefit any Buddhist with devotion who wishes to be born in Amitabha's pure land.
  2. Kalachakra Six Vajra Yogas (Jonangpa tradition) - Pith instructions for a three year retreat. Rinpoche hopes to conduct these rare and phenomenal retreats for western practitioners.

The Kalachakra six yogas is a practice performed after the Kalachakra preliminaries and generation stage practices. First, the common preliminaries or "Ngondro" and uncommon preliminaries are accomplished. Next, the generation phase is practiced, which serves to reverse the practitioners' involvement and fixation in delusory perception.

Once these perceptions are purified, the practitioner is ready to continue with the six subtle and profound subsidiary yogas of the Jonang Kalachakra completion stage practice, which includes meditation practices and physical postures. During these six yogas, the practitioner will develop signs of realisation.

    The Six Vajra Yogas are:

    1. Yoga of Withdrawal
    2. Yoga of Meditative Concentration
    3. Yoga of Harnessing one's Life-force
    4. Yoga of Retention
    5. Yoga of Recollection
    6. Yoga of Meditative Stabilization
  3. Extensive Commentary of the Six Vajra Yogas - written by Bhanda Gelek Gyamtso (Khentrul Rinpoche's Guru in a previous life).
  4. The Six Yogas of Dhakini Nek (Naropa's sister) - written by Bhanda Gelek Gyamtso, This practice is a set of advanced Buddhist tantric meditation practices intended in part to help accelerate the attainment of enlightenment.
  5. The Six Aspects of Bardo Practice - written by Bhanda Gelek Gyamtso. This is a detailed commentary on the stages through the Bardo and how to develop the practice to deal with the experience at the time it comes to us.
  6. Ritual for One Thousand and Twenty-Two Buddhas - written by Khentrul Rinpoche’s master Kyabje Lama Lobsang Trinley

Texts to be translated into Tibetan

Rinpoche believes that  just as we can benefit from the wisdom of some of these sacred Tibetan texts, so too can Tibetan people benefit from learning about  the spread of Buddhism to other countries, the importance of the Rime and Jonang tradition, as well as how the Buddhist teachings apply to Western culture.

Therefore we are also looking for sponsors in order to translate Rinpoche's three books:

- Unveling Your Sacred Truth (estimated cost of translation $4,000),
- The Secret Incarnation (estimated cost $3,000); and
- A Happier Life (estimated cost $2,000)
